The best book releases of 2020

Best book releases 2020- Caroline Allen

If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll probably know that I write monthly book edits for Yahoo. Here’s February’s one. I thought it was time to put together my best books of 2020.

This gives me the absolute pleasure of reading books before they’ve been released and I spend quite a lot of time compiling lists of books I’d like to pre-order on Amazon. Yes, it’s for work but I also love it.

I thought I’d put together some of the book releases I’m most looking forward to this year. As a writer, I’m a big advocate for pre-ordering the books you love. This really helps the writer to get their work seen and can make a big difference to things like Amazon best seller lists.

Since I don’t have copies of most of these books yet, I’ve added some photos throughout this post of some of my favourite books of 2019. This means you can see what sort of books I like to read and tell whether we have the same tastes.

Mad About The House – 101 Interior Design Answers: Kate Watson-Smyth

I couldn’t do a round up of the best books of 2020 without this book. I have Kate Watson-Smyth’s first book, Mad About The House and I loved it so much I read it in one afternoon.

Kate is owner of the UK’s most successful interiors blog and this book covers 101 questions you’ve probably wanted to ask but haven’t.

I found her first book so useful. It covers every budget and shares design hacks you probably haven’t considered before.

Out on 5th March 2020.

Skincare: The Ultimate No-Nonsense Guide: Caroline Hirons

I absolutely love Caroline Hirons. She’s a skin expert who cuts through the BS and delivers very real beauty content.

Also, she knows what she’s talking about. If you read Caroline Hirons’ blog and still use face wipes then, mate, you need to sort yourself out.

I go to her when I have really pressing skincare questions and I find her blog a font of all knowledge. I’m really looking forward to this one.

Out 30 April 2020.

Lunar Living: Working With The Magic Of The Moon Cycles: Kirsty Gallagher

I’ve been really interested in cycle tracking since reading Period Power by Maisie Hill. I’ve started to look into how the moon affects us. In fact, I recently wrote a whole article about why the moon makes us moody.

This book looks at how to get us aligned with our natural cycles and tune into your moods to get more out of life.

It’s right up my street and comes from moon mentor and yoga coach, Kirsty Gallagher.

Out 2 April 2020.

Boy From The Woods: Harlan Coben

I’ve read quite a few Harlan Coben books now and they are always outstanding. He’s also getting some extra attention thanks to his novel The Stranger being adapted into a Netflix series.

If your books of 2020 list sees you going down a Harlan Coben hole (I’d recommend it) one of my favourites is Six Years.

In my opinion (And also Dan Brown’s), he’s the master of modern thrillers and this will, I’m sure, be excellent.

Out 19 March 2020.

Invisible Women: Caroline Criado Perez

I’ve made it a goal of mine to read more of this type of book in 2020. This is going to start with She Said, the book by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey about breaking the sexual harassment story behind the #MeToo movement.

Invisible Women is an exposè of data bias in a “world designed for men”. I’d like to know more about big news that dominates the media and this seems like a good place to start.

This one is already out (last year) but I just want to read it.

Ghosts: Dolly Alderton

I am so excited about this. Everything I Know About Love is a triumph and I also love Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes’ podcast, The High Low. In fact, that’s where I get 90% of my news from.

Ghosts is Dolly Alderton’s first foray into fiction. To be honest, the storyline sounds a bit done in my opinion. Isn’t every book about a woman who has a big online following and is struggling to cope outside of Instagram at the moment?

That said, I know Dolly Alderton’s writing and way of storytelling will stand apart (in a good way) from other books of this kind.

Out 15 October 2020.

Other books to look out for in 2020

I wanted to add a few more books to this list. Not all of these are new – some are just books I haven’t got round to reading yet. I’d love to know what your best books of 2020 are, including ones that are already out.

Please feel free to add your suggestions in the comments. It’s my plan to build up a library of recommended books. I’ll keep adding suggestions and reviews to this post as and when I read them, so pleased check back.
